Frequently Asked Questions
Why do you require a pastor’s recommendation?
3SLI is designed with student leaders in mind, and as is stated above, requires a high level of maturity and focus. Unlike other Church of God activities, this event isn’t for everyone. We rely on pastors to recommend those students who they feel have leadership gifts.
I know that 3SLI is designed for senior high students, but can junior high and college students attend?
Junior high students will be permitted to attend only if they are highly recommended by their pastor. The training is intense and requires a high level of maturity and focus. We feel that it is best for students to wait until at least their freshman year in high school to begin attending 3SLI.
Students who started 3SLI training in high school may return to complete the three-year track when they are in college. However, students may NOT begin with the first level of 3SLI once they have started college.
Is our church required to send chaperones/adult leaders with our students? When our group arrives at 3SLI, will we be put in rooms together, or mixed with other groups?
If your group is bringing your own chaperones, we will place you in rooms together unless your group leader requests that you be mixed with other groups. If there is room for an extra person in your room, we may add a person from another church who is without a chaperone. We want the leaders from your church to be able to invest in you during the weekend, and we will encourage them to follow-up once you get home. However, we expect that, as leaders, you will take every opportunity to reach out and make an effort to meet new people and build new relationships with others as well.
How many students are we allowed to send to 3SLI from our church?
There is not a limit on the number of students you can send. All we ask is that you send student leaders—the “cream of the crop”—and that they all have a pastor’s recommendation.
If I am the only student attending from my church, who will I share a room with?
We will place you in a room with same-sex students from another church. If possible, there will be an adult chaperone in your room as well.
Is it true that the Church of God colleges/universities will give scholarships to students who complete 3SLI?
In October of 2008, all Church of God schools adopted an identical policy regarding scholarships for SLI’s. For complete information about these scholarships, contact the admissions department at your school of choice. Links to these schools are available on this website!
